The Doors

I've often made the argument that James Douglas Morrison could be considered the grandfather of shock rock.  Granted, compared to the likes of Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne and Marliyn Manson, what Jim did is a bit tame.  But consider some of the things he did: the infamous performance on the Ed Sullivan Show, where he was asked to change the line in the song, Light my Fire which goes "Girl we couldn't get much higher."  Not only did he sing it, he sang it louder.  One might say that he was just being a typical rock -n- roll rebel, but it did stir things up quite a bit.  And of course if you listen to the lyrics to the song Peace Frog, on the surface it can come across as somewhat violent.  Jims voice can also be haunting to a certain extent, notably in the song Riders on the Storm.  Whatever else you may think or say of him, Jim Morrison was a talent which influenced others & his music and poems are still celebrated world wide.
