The front man for the legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ronnie Van Zant, was the grand father of southern/blues rock. His
voice was a great fit for the blues sound of the band & his lyrics were very much in the style of country music. He had
an awesome sound in songs such as "Freebird" or "Sweet Home Alabama." But he also wrote some amazing
lyrics, my personal favorite being "Simple Man." Ronnie's style was uncommon in those days as he could
blend his voice to fit the Skynyrd sounds of blues, rock, and country & could maintain a trueness to those styles, as
few others of his time could. In fact, to me, his voice shines through wonderfully above the likes of the Allman Brothers
& Credence Clearwater Revival. He was also the mastermind behind the band, having come up with the name, &
honing the sound of the band, making Lynyrd Skynyrd a legend which will live on for many years. Sadly, as with many
other artist, Ronnie was killed in a plane crash during the height of Lynyrd Skynyrd's saga. He is truly missed & still
well loved by many fans & artists alike.
